Zyxel Keenetic 4g 3 (Iii) Router Setup
Despite all the perfection of the information technologies used today, there are cases when it is impossible to draw a dedicated Internet line into the premises, or too expensive. In such situations, wireless 3G and 4G modems of those operators whose coverage is available in the area come to the rescue. But what if you need to connect several devices to the Internet at the same time? The answer is simple – purchase and install a 4G wifi router model Zyxel Keenetic 3 (III), for example.
This is a simple and concise solution that requires only a few preliminary settings, which you will learn about from this material.

About Zyxel Keenetic
Ziksel is well-known in the IT environment for the quality and uninterrupted operation of its devices, and the Kinetic iii router is no exception. This router is specially designed to work with mobile usb modems. But still on its rear panel you will find the usual slot for installing a LAN cable and 5 additional ports for wired connection to a PC. As well as a USB port on the side and a front panel of status indicators. This is what we need to set up an Internet connection. So, how do you get online?
First things first, you need to unpack and connect the 4G router to the network. This is nothing complicated: we connect the power cord to the connector on the rear panel, plug it into the network (electric), insert the modem into the port on the side, connect the computer to the router using the cord, and press the power button. After that, the indicator lights should light up, by which we can understand: the router saw the device connected to it and spreads the Wi-Fi signal.
In addition, you need to make sure that your PC is ready to work on the new Internet network. To do this, open the Network and Sharing Center (right-click on the network icon next to the volume icon in the lower right corner of the screen). Next, we need to go to the adapter settings page (on the right), open the properties of the current connection that the device has already caught (by right-clicking) and open the properties of versions 4 and 6 of Internet protocols in them. Most likely you are using the first one, but to be sure, you should set automatic receipt of the IP and DNS data of the provider for both. After you do this, open your browser – we will move on.
The main stage of settings
Today, there is Zyxel Keenetic 3 (III) generation. You will recognize it by the difference in the shape of the case and the presence of an additional antenna. Amplified signal is a definite advantage. But even if you have the second generation, the Wi-Fi coverage area should be enough for comfortable work within the same apartment / house.
And so, we opened the browser. The next thing to do is enter the IP address of the distributor (Zyxel Keenetic) in the address bar – 192.168.1.1
Open the browser, enter in the address bar http://192.168.1.1
If the router was previously used by someone, it makes sense to reset the settings by holding the Reset button on the back of the device. Pressing on it is worth 10-15 seconds.
After going to the above address, an authorization field will appear in front of you. You must enter the word admin in the username and password, then press Enter, and voila, you are in the installation menu of the 4G router! You will immediately be prompted to change your password. We recommend doing so.
Next, open the quick setup by clicking on the button in the upper right corner of the screen and follow the following algorithm:
- The router has detected a modem – click "Next";
- Choose your country, city of residence from the list;
- We indicate our Internet provider (MTS, Megaphone, etc.);
- We agree to install firmware updates. We wait until the files are downloaded, installed and the router reboots and Zyxel Keenetic 3 (III) is ready for further work;
- We read the description of the new Yandex service for protecting Internet users and decide whether we need it or not;
- After clicking “Next”, we check the network indicator in the PC tray and load any site, click the “Get online” button;
This is where the quick setup for connecting to the network is over! You can disconnect the cord and enter the 4G Internet through a Wi-Fi signal.
The name of the wi-fi channel and the password to it are usually indicated on the bottom of the device.
Configure your own Wi-Fi settings
To change the name (SSID) of the distributed signal, access password, channel and other parameters, you must again enter the main menu of the router, from where we opened the quick setup. While in it, take a look at the icon menu at the bottom of the screen: we are interested in the tab with the image of the signal strength. Go to it and select the “Access Point” section in the menu (above).
Moving a little down the page you will see the fields with the settings for the main parameters of the wi-fi signal:
- Name – you can change to your own;
- Protection – installed by default the most advanced;
- The network key is your password. Change to your own complicated;
It’s better not to touch other parameters. You can change, perhaps, the signal strength, if you do not need a too large propagation radius: you can reduce it to 80-70%.
Tip: If several more routers from neighboring apartments / rooms work in the area of your device, there may be interruptions in the work or the network may not work fast enough. This is due to the fact that all routers, even if it is not Zyxel Keenetic II or III generation, operate at a similar frequency (by default), and the signal of the Megafon provider is faced with exactly the same. To avoid this situation, it is necessary to change the channel: from Auto to one of the proposed ones, until you understand that the router issues the speed declared by the provider.
How to reset settings programmatically
For various errors, it is more correct and easiest to return the parameters to the factory settings programmatically. To do this, select the last icon of the lower menu (settings icon) in the main panel of the router. On the page that opens, look for Options, then rewind the page down and see the button for resetting to factory settings. After clicking, all the changes you make will be erased and you will need to perform a quick setup again and set the network name / password.
Also, next to you will see a reset button. Sometimes this simple operation can solve the problem because during it Zyxel Keenetic 3 (III) resets the 4G network, receives new IP and DNS addresses. In addition, all devices, including unsolicited “guests,” are disconnected from your network. And, if these clients do not have a password, they won’t be able to connect back.
As you can see, connecting Zyxel Keenetic ii routers to 4G modems is a fairly simple procedure that you need to do and remember only once. Further, everything will be extremely simple and clear, regardless of whether you are connecting to the Beeline, or your provider is Megaphone. Generation III models are configured in the same way. So to access the network, you just have to insert a 4G flash drive and start your PC!
