6 proven reasons why the Android phone does not see the SIM card
What to do if the phone does not see the SIM card? To resolve this issue, check the potential causes listed below.
Just before you go to them and find out what to do, the first thing you need to do is determine one of two directions of the search: the reason is in the device, (firmware) or in the SIM card itself.
This question is solved simply. Insert the SIM card into another phone – does it work? So the reason is in the smartphone / tablet or Android OS itself.
There are also varieties of problems. For example, the phone determines the SIM card, but does not see the contacts, or rather the number, or sees one, but does not see the second.
ATTENTION: remember what preceded this. If this happened after the update, then the point is in the firmware.
NOTE: this problem is almost independent of the phone manufacturer. This can happen equally with Samsung or Lenovo, just like from an operator: tele2 or another.
The first reason why the phone doesn’t see the SIM card – flight mode is on
Each android phone has a built-in function flight mode (offline mode). If you use it, then mobile communications, wi-fi and bluetooth are disabled.
It can be activated randomly without noticing anything. Turn off airplane mode and install the sim card again to get a connection between it and the phone.
The second reason why the smartphone or tablet does not see the SIM card is the wrong settings
Rarely, but it still happens that after acquiring a new Android phone, he does not see a SIM card.
This happened to me only once, although I already bought dozens (of course, not everything for myself – many friends ask for help in choosing.
Then the SIM card slot turned off. Go to settings (SIM card manager) and activate the SIM card.
If the smartphone does not see the second one, then put it on alert in the same way (note that the second one works simultaneously with the first one, only in expensive devices, usually in cheap ones one by one, depending on which one is involved).
There is still such a solution. The SIM card in the settings can be “turned on”, but the phone still does not see it.
Then we go into the messages, it doesn’t matter whether we send it to anyone, the main thing is to send it with a "idle" SIM card.
The system itself will ask you to "turn on" the SIM card. We confirm the inclusion and rejoice. SMS will not go, do not worry.
The third reason why a smartphone or tablet does not see a SIM card is damage
Sim card may get damaged over time. Personally, I have already had this two times. I had to change to a new one – the phone number is saved.
Just go to the service center and you will be given a new one to which your number is attached. It’s fast, but you have to pay for a new one, as if you bought a new package.
Just before rushing to the service, insert the SIM card into any other work phone to make sure that it really is a SIM card.
The fourth reason why a smartphone or tablet does not see a SIM card – IMEI glitch
Each phone has an individual IMEI code – it is impossible to make calls without it.
Check, suddenly something happened. To do this, dial the combination: # 06 #. To display it. If this is not possible, then a repair point is indispensable.
The fifth reason why a smartphone or tablet does not see a SIM card – firmware
The phone may have buggy firmware, especially after the update – the device will work, but not all functions.
Then you need to return the device to the recovery point in order to fix the software or download the appropriate firmware from the manufacturer’s website and update your phone.
Reason six – the phone does not see the SIM card after updating
This problem is not uncommon and in most cases can be easily fixed. There are several solutions.
First: reflash through a computer or laptop (in case of insufficient knowledge, it is better not to undertake such work yourself).
Install a patch for communication via TWRP Recovery – the patch is released by the manufacturer if a glitch is noticed.
Perform a factory reset – this solution is best applied first, as it is the easiest and in most cases removes the issue.
Other reasons why the phone does not see the SIM card
The matter may still be in the contacts of the slot, for example, from the ingress of water. Water can get in even in the rain when your smartphone is in your pocket (tested by experience).
Mobile service providers sometimes launch promotions – they make phones cheaper, but they attach a SIM card (their network) to them.
Then the phone will not see the SIM cards of other operators (experts remove this lock).
You can not lose sight of the contacts on the SIM card itself and in the slot. These elements may rust – wipe them with an ordinary eraser.
Also, the contacts may not contact due to poor adhesion to each other. Usually, just removing the card and inserting it back is enough. If it does not help, then an adjustment will be needed.
In this case, the slot may be in an inaccessible place, and not under the battery, then you will have to disassemble the device, although at first just dry it, especially if there is an appearance of condensation.
Of course, all reasons cannot be foreseen, just as it is not always possible to do without the intervention of a specialist.
The notes cited are only typical reasons, in fact there are many more. Therefore, if you have not solved your problem, then describe it in the comments – we will solve it together. Good luck!
When the phone does not see the SIM card, what should I do?
Your android Android OS Why the phone does not see the SIM card
A SIM card is one of the main elements without which the phone will not be a phone, although today this device can do much more than making incoming and outgoing calls and text messages, it is already a serious powerful device that fits in our pocket. Of course, today when the phone does not see the SIM card, this is a problem and the Android smartphone is no longer a full-fledged device. In our article, we will explain why the phone does not see the SIM card and how to fix this problem on an Android smartphone.
The smartphone does not see a SIM card what to do?
By the way, another interesting topic of the article is in our blog: Why Android does not see the memory card?
Why the phone does not see the sim card
This question can be answered in two options: a breakdown associated with the phone or a malfunction on the side of the SIM card. Let’s start with the second option.
If the phone does not see the SIM card, first of all check the operability of the SIM card:
- Insert the SIM card into another phone and check how this phone perceives it, maybe the SIM card is out of order.
- If the SIM card is new, make sure it is activated (replenish the account, make a call, enter the activation code, etc.).
- Perhaps the validity period of your “SIM card” has ended, for example, due to the lack of replenishment of a mobile account.
If, having completed all of the above tests, you have shown that everything is in order with the SIM card, then proceed to the following instructions. Trouble on the side of a smartphone or tablet.
A tablet or phone does not see a SIM card, what should I do?
So, you found out that the malfunction is still on the side of the device (phone or tablet). There may be several options why the smartphone does not see the SIM card.
Check if you have a dual SIM Android phone, if you have the ability to use two SIM cards in your phone. For example, in some models, you can disable the work of the second “SIM card”.
- Open “Settings”.
- Go to the section “Manage SIM-cards”
- Turn on the disabled mobile sim card.
It may be that the SIM card is turned on and still does not work on the phone or tablet. Try in this case, write a message, it does not matter to whom and with what content, most importantly try to send a message with a non-working “SIM card”. When sending a message, the system should make a request to turn on the SIM card. Make a confirmation and use your smartphone or tablet fully.
The smartphone does not see the sim card
If a new phone, check if it is flashed under a specific service provider. If it is “locked”, then such a device will not work by any operator unless you reflash it.
There may also be a malfunction with the visibility of the SIM card when moisture or dust gets on the contacts. In this case, you can gently wipe the contacts with an alcohol solution (only without fanaticism, with an alcohol solution).
Fatal for you can be damage to contacts, for example, as a result of a fall or perhaps even because of frequent changes of SIM cards in the phone. In this case, they will help you at the service center.
Smartphone does not see SIM card after firmware
It also happens that after flashing a smartphone or tablet, the SIM card stops working. In this case, try to reflash again, maybe something you did wrong. If you do not want to bother, just contact the service center as well.

The phone does not see the SIM card, what should I do?
Why the android device does not see the SIM card
Conventionally, all the causes of this error can be divided into two types: software and hardware. In the first case, the system faults are to blame, in the second – mechanical malfunctions of the SIM card itself or the slot for it. First, we must check everything related to the system and if this does not bring the desired result, go to hardware malfunctions.
System (software) malfunctions
Turning on the SIM card Just in case, it’s worth checking to see if your SIM card is turned off in your smartphone’s settings. To do this: Go to the settings in the "SIM card". Click on each SIM card (if you have 2 of them) and activate it off. Sometimes there is such a bug: the SIM card is active, but still an icon hangs that it is disabled. In this case, we simply send any SMS from a “non-working” SIM: a request for its inclusion will automatically appear, which we must confirm. Problems with NVRAMNVRAM on devices with an MTK processor are an area where important data is stored, including IMEI. And if its damage has occurred, then the IMEI is erased, and without it the smartphone will not see the SIM card. To do the diagnosis, do the following: Enter the code 06 # in the “dialer”. If instead of IMEI we see empty windows, the problem is in NVRAM. Either we turn on Wi-Fi and if a network with the name “NVRAM WARNING: Err = 0x10” appears, then the problem lies in NVRAM.
Everything is solved very simply: we restore the old IMEI or change it to a new one. How to do this, read in another article.
SIM problems after upgrade
Sometimes the phone stops seeing the SIM card after you installed the latest update of your firmware. In this case, it makes sense to “roll back” the updates and return to the previous version, in which the SIM worked properly. You can also reset your smartphone to the factory settings, which are described in detail here.
Hardware malfunctions SIM and phone incompatibilities For example, you bought a super modern flagship smartphone and inserted a SIM card in it, which you have been using for a very long time. It is likely that the device simply can not read such a SIM card. In this case, just go to the nearest office of your operator and change the SIM card to a new one (the number will remain the same). Problem with the contacts of the slot and SIM card If you accidentally wet your smartphone or have been in a dusty room for a long time, then it’s possible the SIM slot contacts and Sims themselves simply fouled or oxidized. To fix this, just dampen a cotton swab in alcohol and wipe the contacts here and there. Conclusion

If an Android phone with two SIM cards
An Android phone with two SIM cards is usually purchased to insert two SIM cards, possibly from different mobile operators, and as a result, carry one with you instead of two phones. However, in fact, they sometimes still use one SIM card.

For example, I abandoned the idea of using a second SIM card in a dual SIM card. "The old fashioned way" and continue to use two phones. Refused, in particular, due to problems that may arise when switching from a regular to a mini-SIM card, which must be done for a dual-SIM phone. It turns out that it is preferable to go to the bank in advance to notify about the change in the size of the SIM card (and accordingly about the change in its serial number), although the phone number remains the same. But without the code that comes in the SMS message to the phone, you won’t be able to confirm many actions on the Internet.
In addition, it is not always possible to remember why, that is, an important, but rarely used service account has a phone attached to it, and accordingly, where else can there be a problem when changing the SIM format. True, the existence of such sensitivity on the size of the SIM card still depends on the particular bank and on specific services. Perhaps with the development of technology this problem will go away.
Why configure sims
This must be done in order to receive calls only to one or two SIM cards at the same time, and also to be able to access the Internet from the selected SIM card, as well as distribute Wi-Fi.
The Android phone is, in fact, a small computer, so many computer approaches are applicable to it. Namely, the configuration of SIM cards occurs hardware and software (hardware software).
For example, if you enable only one SIM card on your phone programmatically, that is, make it active and leave the second SIM inactive, but do not disable it in hardware, then in the end you will see a crossed out circle icon on your phone. This icon means that the phone has two SIM cards, but one of them is empty, or rather, it is not in the phone.
Screenshots were taken on the Samsung Android phone and the settings are described using this model as an example.
Fig. 1. Crossed-out circle icon and “Applications”
Where to look for SIM management
This can be done using the SIM card manager. To do this, tap (open) on the main page of the phone “Applications” (Fig. 1) and go to the Android Settings:
Fig. 2. Android settings
In the Android Settings, we are looking for the SIM card manager:

How to set up two SIM cards on an Android phone
The screenshot below (Fig. 4) shows that SIM 2 has been renamed and is called Hope. It is on it that receiving calls and the Internet is configured, namely:
- Voice call
- Video call
- Data network.
Such settings can be made in the SIM card manager, in the “Preferred SIM card” section:
Fig. 4. Two SIM cards on an Android smartphone
If, for example, for 2nd Simka, you indicate that she will "catch" the Internet, then everything else will be configured automatically. And there will be no inscription “No network” on the main page of the phone.
Both SIM cards still remain connected hardware, as evidenced by two points in the SIM card manager (Fig. 4):
- SIM 1 and Hope cards are shown as active. If one of them is inactive, then its name will be written in pale gray.
- The option "Active mode" is configured to "Receive calls to both SIM-cards even during a call."
How to disable the second SIM card
If you do not need a second SIM card (I have SIM 1) and in fact it is not in the phone, then you can safely turn it off. To do this, tap on the name SIM 1, a window opens:
Fig. 5. SIM 1 card is on
To disable the SIM card, tap on the green slider (in the red frame in Fig. 5). After that, the engine will turn from active, green to gray, not active:
Fig. 6. SIM card is off
SIM card SIM 1 is disabled, so now there is no crossed out circle, which was in Fig. 1 when the SIM is on.
One SIM card with number 2 is active:
Fig. 7. Only one SIM card with number 2 works
How to enable the second SIM on Android
- You need to insert a second SIM card into the phone,
- then in the Settings open the SIM Card Manager (Fig. 3),
- tap on the name of the second SIM card (Fig. 4),
- and then move the engine from the “Off” position (Fig. 6) to the “On” state (Fig. 5).
The “Active mode” option must also be enabled (Fig. 4), which provides the function “Receive calls to both SIM cards even during a call”.
If the Internet needs to be configured for the second SIM card, then in the SIM card manager, in the “Preferred SIM card” tab (Fig. 4), in the “Data transfer network” option, select the desired SIM card from two.
About the number of SIM cards in the phone
It seems that there are phones with four SIM cards, so a dual-SIM phone is not the limit, although all this, of course, is not for everyone.
And further. The more active SIM-cards in the smartphone, the faster its battery runs out. Energy is spent on maintaining communication with several base stations of mobile operators.
Therefore, owners of smartphones with multiple SIM cards often have to think about a charger or use external batteries or devices for mobile recharging. For this, some smartphone users do not like their "multi-SIM" options. But it’s convenient for those who need to be constantly in touch, be on several mobile numbers at the same time.
