Flashing Iphone Regardless Of Model

Flashing Iphone Regardless Of Model

Imagine the iPhone served you faithfully and never failed you. But the day came when something went wrong. The device stopped working like a clock and produces constant errors. It often reboots for no reason. The last update of your iPhone was not entirely successful or the new version of the OS did not like.

All of these problems pose you with a choice. Carry the iPhone to the service center, where, of course, it will be repaired, but you will have to give a round sum for this. Or you can solve the problem yourself simply by reflashing the smartphone. The same method is likely to be used in a service center. Do not be afraid to do a flashing yourself, because it is not so difficult and scary as you think. You do not need to be a programmer, wizard or priest.

First of all, flashing the iPhone is restoring the smartphone to a healthy state. The main thing to remember is that by flashing you lose all data from your smartphone.

Therefore, before starting the process, if the device is in working condition, connect it to the computer and make a backup copy. Copy your photos, music and videos to the hard drive, because after flashing the iPhone will return to the default settings and will be completely clean.

So, to begin with, regardless of your iPhone model, whether it’s 3G, 4S or 5S, the flashing process will be the same for all of them, so you can not read the lines looking for confirmation of compatibility with your iPhone, just repeat the following simple and unpretentious actions.

Preparing for a flashing operation

Let’s look at the whole process using the iPhone 4S as an example. In order to start the operation, you need to download the firmware with the ipsw extension. Each iPhone model has a specific firmware version.

Finding out which version is needed for your iPhone is easy. In the firmware files indicate the version of the iPhone (iPhone 4, 4s, 5) and, in fact, its model. A model is an alphanumeric character set that can be seen on the back of your phone under the apple logo, such as Model A1387 or Model A1303.

The whole difficulty in choosing the firmware version by model is that there are GSM and CDMA models of iPhones. The only difference is that they work in different cellular networks. But that is why you need to choose the model you need. Firmware for GSM iPhone 4 will not install on CDMA iPhone 4.

Once you have identified your iPhone 5s model, find the site where you can download the firmware. Choose the one that suits you from the list and start downloading the OS. You can choose the latest version of iOS, or, if you did not like the new version of the OS, you have the opportunity to download the old firmware that was before. Most importantly, the old version you are downloading is signed by Apple.

The second thing to do before upgrading is to turn off the Find iPhone feature. This is done so that you can reflash your iPhone 4s, since if the option is on, it will not allow you to reflash, – iTunes will display an error.

Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes, just run the program if the new version is available, iTunes will notify you and you can upgrade automatically (if you have not downloaded iTunes, do it here).

After you have done all the preparations, you can proceed directly to the flashing procedure itself.

Flashing process in action

There are 2 ways of flashing: through RecoveryMode and DFUmode. RecoveryMode is a disaster recovery mode. Designed to restore the working state of devices on iOS, after they stopped working normally.

DFUMode is, in fact, the same RecoveryMode, it differs only in that it performs the entire operation bypassing the iPhone OS, and does a flashing directly through firmware. It is recommended to reflash with this method to owners of devices with a jailbreak or if it is impossible to reflash a smartphone using RecoveryMode.

Flashing through RecoveryMode

So, initiate the iPhone off and wait until the screen finally turns off. Connect it to the computer while holding the Home button. The computer recognizes the phone in RecoveryMode.

  • We start iTunes and wait until the program finds an iPhone, here are the options:
    1. iTunes may give us a window with the offer Restore iPhone, if so, then click OK
    2. iTunes doesn’t react in any way, then click on the smartphone’s icon and look for the “Restore iPhone” item, and then select it while holding down the Shift key (for Windows OS) or the Alt key (for Mac OC).
    3. A File Manager will appear in which we have to choose the firmware. We are looking for a file with the firmware that was previously downloaded;
    4. Select it and click the Open button.

Then iTunes will do everything itself, you just need to wait for the operation to complete. After flashing, disconnect the iPhone from the computer. Long press Power turn off the smartphone. By quick pressing Power turn on the device. Everything, the iPhone is fully functional and ready for further use.

    Flashing via DFU Mode

Before flashing the phone, you need to transfer it to DFU Mode. We connect the device to the computer and turn off the smartphone. Next, simultaneously hold down the Home and Power keys and count to 10 seconds. After they expire, release the Power button while continuing to hold Home until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in DFU mode.

Further, we act the same as with recovery through Recovery Mode.

    • Choose your device in iTunes.
    • In the smartphone management menu we find the item “Restore iPhone”.
    • We select it by holding the Shift key for the Windows operating system or Alt for Mac OC.
    • In the window that opens, specify the path to the file with the firmware and click Open.
    • We are waiting for iTunes to complete the operation.
    • We turn on and use a fully working device.

This method is suitable for those who put a Jailbreak on their iPhone or for some reason the flashing in Recovery Mode did not work.
